Frequently Asked Questions
How long are medical visits? . . .
A typical medical visit is 15 minutes long. Complete physical examinations are offered once a year and are booked for 30 minutes. Counselling by the doctor is booked for 30 minutes.
How do I book an appointment? . . .
Appointments for all visits and services can be made by calling (204) 691-1600.
In the near future, appointments also will be available online.
What if I have to miss an appointment? . . .
We understand that things happen, but please consider that a portion of the income from each visit supports the ongoing function of OOHC, so missed visits cost the centre. Please keep this in mind and avoid same-day cancellations. Fees may be charged directly to the patient after the second occurrence of a missed appointment.

Can I choose my OOHC provider? . . .
Yes. Unless a certain service is specialized by a particular healthcare provider, we have worked hard to give you choice so that you can select the best provider for you. OOHC also will work on a team basis. So, if you are unable to get an appointment with your own provider, another team member will gladly see you in a scheduled opening.
Can I use OOHC only for matters relating to my sexual health? . . .
While we offer comprehensive Family Medicine that can meet all your needs, you also are welcome to visit us just for sensitive and specialized sexual health screening, diagnosis, and treatment, or counselling by the sexologist. While it is safest for your regular doctor to be aware of all your health issues and treatments, it is fine if you use OOHC only for specific services. We will not notify your other provider unless you give us permission. Please advise us if you wish to restrict access to specific test results or medications prescribed on your e-Health chart.
Must I give up my current healthcare provider? . . .
We believe that OOHC can meet all your primary health needs. However, if you wish to use only selected OOHC providers or services you will not need to give up your current healthcare provider(s). While it is safest for all medical problems to be managed by one provider it is fine if you use OOHC only for specific services. We will not notify your other provider unless you give us permission.
How will you maintain confidentiality? . . .
We understand the Winnipeg community can feel very small since everybody often seems to know everybody else. You might even know some of our healthcare providers. Please be aware that all of our providers and staff sign a pledge to follow the confidentiality and privacy rules in the Manitoba Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). There are strict penalties for breaching confidentially up to and including dismissal. If you wish to have your electronic medical record visible only to your preferred OOHC provider, this can be arranged. If you are using more than one OOHC provider, only need-to-know information is shared between them.
Are all of your services covered by insurance? . . .
Most medical visits are covered by Manitoba Health. However, some services such as counselling or massage therapy are covered by insurance plans. Please speak with your insurance company if you are not sure what they cover.
Will I be charged for services not covered by Manitoba Health? . . .
Certain services are not covered by Manitoba health and can be charged to the patient at the time of the visit.
Fees can be charged for services that are not be covered by Manitoba Health, such as medical letters.
Once collected, these fees are not given to service providers but are used to help OOHC continue to deliver its range of services.
